Constraining red supergiant mass-loss prescriptions through supernova radio properties

چکیده
Supernova properties in radio strongly depend on their circumstellar environment and they are an important probe to investigate the mass loss of supernova progenitors. Recently, core-collapse observations have been assembled rise time peak luminosity distribution supernovae at 8.4 GHz has estimated. In this paper, we constrain mass-loss prescriptions for red supergiants by using Type II radio. We take de Jager van Loon rates supergiants, calculate based them, compare results with observed distribution. found that rate explains widely spread well, while predicts a relatively narrow range luminosity. conclude should strong dependence as reproduce supernovae.

Supernova shock breakout from a red supergiant.
Massive stars undergo a violent death when the supply of nuclear fuel in their cores is exhausted, resulting in a catastrophic "core-collapse" supernova. Such events are usually only detected at least a few days after the star has exploded. Observations of the supernova SNLS-04D2dc with the Galaxy Evolution Explorer space telescope reveal a radiative precursor from the supernova shock before th...
متن کاملAtmospheric dynamics and the mass loss process in red supergiant stars
Context. Red supergiant stars represent a key phase in the evolution of massive stars. Recent radiative hydrodynamic simulations suggest that their atmospheres may be the location of large-scale convective motions. Aims. As supergiant convection is expected to generate supersonic motions and shocks, we seek constraints on these atmospheric motions and their possible relation with mass-loss rate...
متن کاملMass loss and supernova progenitors
We first discuss the mass range of type IIP SN progenitors and how the upper and lower limits impose interesting constraints on stellar evolution. Then we discuss the possible implications of two SNe, 2002ap and 2006jc, for Wolf-Rayet star mass-loss rates and long Gamma-ray bursts.
متن کاملAn Upper Mass Limit on a Red Supergiant Progenitor for the Type II-Plateau Supernova SN 2006my
We analyze two pre-supernova (SN) and three post-SN high-resolution images of the site of the Type II-Plateau supernova SN 2006my in an effort to either detect the progenitor star or to constrain its properties. Following image registration, we find that an isolated stellar object is not detected at the location of SN 2006my in either of the two pre-SN images. In the first, an I-band image obta...
